To the Duffy Books in Homes Team

A big thank you for your continued support by way of free books for all our children. We had a fun assembly with our Duffy Books HERO Adrian ‘Showtime’ Boyd earlier this week.  The children and staff were thoroughly entertained by him. We really appreciate the time and effort everyone puts into the running of this special programme.

Thanks again from all of us

The Stage of Origin
After a 5 year break, it was time for the Stage of Origin to return – bigger and better than ever before! A star-studded Team Union, took on an international flavoured Team League to see who would take out the Stage of Origin title in support of Duffy Books in Homes.

Team League were looking to go back to back as against Team Union that was filled with past and present All Black stars. Justin Hodges led the League charge along with Albert Vete, Konrad Hurrell and Jonathan Wright. Jerome Kaino took charge of Union next to Josh Kronfeld, Liam Messam and Stephen Luatua. Each team was capped off with a superstar that have made their mark off the rugby field! The hilarious Tofiga Fepulea’i topped off Team League while Lapi Mariner’s voice took control of Team Union.

The Logan Campbell centre was packed. The audience roared with laughter for two hours while the stars were on stage singing, dancing and battling each other through 8 different challenges. The night was hosted by Duffy Books in Homes’ very own and super talented MC - Henry Tuipe’a. Henry (also known as Jandals) has MC’d the show 4 times in the past and knows exactly how to play not only the crowd but the players alike!

The challenges went from the ‘Human Buzzer’ round, where Jerome Kaino and Konrad Hurrell’s head became the buzzer for each team, to seeing Albert Vete and Jonathan Wright prance around the stage attempting to re-enact a routine from the Mt Eden Ballet Academy. Challenges also featured Seki5, The Duffy Theatre and were backed by the talented Allegro band.  It was clear to see the crowd were loving it as the whole room was full of laughs for the entire two hour show.

Each round was scored and given feedback on by our three guest judges – Maria Tutaia, Art Green and Nainz from Adeaze. The judges scored either team out of 10 for each round and also chose who they thought was “Man of the round”. It was an even battle throughout the night, with the winning team only taking out “The Stage of Origin” for 2016 by 1 point…

After 8 rounds of singing, dancing, lifting, and translating; it was Tofiga Fepulea’i and Team League that came out on top to win The Stage of Origin!

Duffy Books in Homes would like to thank Mainfreight and Latitude for their huge amount of support they put into The Stage of Origin. The event would not have been possible without all of the help from the sponsors that came on board to assist in their speciality field.  Over $28,000 was raised from the event, which will go directly to supporting the unsponsored schools on the Duffy programme. Thanks again to all involved, we will see you next time!
