To the Duffy Books in Homes Team

A big thank you for your continued support by way of free books for all our children. We had a fun assembly with our Duffy Books HERO Adrian ‘Showtime’ Boyd earlier this week.  The children and staff were thoroughly entertained by him. We really appreciate the time and effort everyone puts into the running of this special programme.

Thanks again from all of us

Literacy charity helps bring sea-change to New Zealand schools
Sea Week

Literacy charity, Duffy Books in Homes, has joined forces with Young Ocean Explorers, an environmental education organisation dedicated to connecting children’s hearts and minds with the ocean through storytelling.

Since 1993, Duffy Books in Homes has been giving children the gift of reading in hundreds of schools throughout New Zealand. Their partnership with Young Ocean Explorers goes one step further.

During Sea Week, which runs from 3-11 March 2018 11, Young Ocean Explorers is giving each of more than 500 Duffy schools a copy of their book and teacher resource material ‘Love our Ocean.’ The schools will also receive a selection of posters focusing on different areas of the marine environment.

Both organisations realise that the oceans are one of the Earth’s most precious resources and that working collaboratively can help achieve greater change.

Duffy Books in Homes General Manager, Linda Vagana, felt the choice to work with Young Ocean Explorers was an easy one.

“We exist as Pacific peoples because the oceans connect us – a life experience between islands growing up in New Zealand with Samoan heritage. We also love the opportunity to provide as wide a range of books as possible to our schools.”

Steve and Riley Hathaway, founders of Young Ocean Explorers, are excited to work with Duffy Books in Homes.

“We’ve always been fans of the Duffy programme and we’re thrilled that we’ve been able to find a way to work together more closely,” Mr Hathaway said.

Both organisations hope that the books and resources will spark a conversation in schools about the importance of the marine habitat.
