Tri-athlete
Tracy is an all round athlete and if anyone knows about beating the odds, then Tracy does. She started as a Black Fern and was in the team in 1990/91/94/95. She also played in the Auckland Women's rugby team from 1989 through until 2000. She has also competed in Waka Ama and attended the World Sprint Championships in Fiji in 1998 and competed at the National Dragon Boating Champs in 1995-7. But her sport came to an abrupt halt when she suffered a crippling injury when her hamstring detached itself. She was told by surgeons that it would take her a year to learn to walk again. By 2002 Tracey was competing in marathons and triathlons and in 2003 completed her first NZ Ironman race. Since then she has been concentrating on Ironman and has competed in marathons and Half Ironman races and has completed the NZ Ironman race 7 times.
She celebrated becoming a Triple New Zealand Representative following selection to represent NZ at the ITU World Age Group Long Distance Triathlon Championships in Canberra in 2006 where she placed 7th and 2009 in Perth.
She continues to race in Ironman and triathlon championships and became the Auckland City Triathlon Open Women's Sprint Distance Champion in 2006. Not bad for someone who was told they would struggle walking again!
In between sporting events Tracey is the Mid North Community Sports Advisor for Sport Northland.
