Jacque Wilton
Marine Educator
Jacque Wilton is an Educator for the National Aquarium of New Zealand. She was born in Auckland and attended Kaipara College until end of 6th form.
As a child, she used to holiday on Rangitoto Island in the Hauraki Gulf and because of this she's always had a fascination with marine life, especially dolphins. She had resigned myself to the fact that I was never going to get to work with them, so she used to read everything she could get my hands on about them. When she turned 21, she moved to Australia for 7 months working at a backpackers on the Gold Coast.
She moved back to New Zealand and to the Hawkes Bay in 1995 where she started as a volunteer at Marineland. She did this for two years and was too stubborn to leave. She then became a ticket office lady for a year, and then back outside to become a full time keeper. She was in this role for 7 years until she was offered the position of Education Officer in October 2005. When Marineland was closed to the public in December 2010, she was slowly integrated into the team at the National Aquarium just down the road. Jacque has been fulltime there since July 2011. She has also completed courses such as SSI Dive Control Specialist (Step down from Assistant Instructor) and also Animal Care from Otago Polytechnic. She a passion to pass on the knowledge of how to protect the oceans, and the amazing creatures that live in it, so they are around for future generations.
