Trevor McCoid
Inventor
Trevor was brought up in the north and attended Northland College before enlisting in the Navy in 1968. He served 20 years and achieved the highest level in Naval Gunnery, retiring as a Chief Gunnery Instructor in 1988. He has trade certificates in Seamanship, Explosives, Weapons, Small Engines and Engineering as well as being an Electrical Technician.

Trevor holds various patents in the outdoor industry and works with a very large Chinese and European company in design and development.

Trevor and his wife owned outdoor equipment shops for many years before moving into the sales and design side of systems engineering.

In 2002 he represented New Zealand as team leader in the Discovery Channel event in the UK called the ‘Full Metal Challenge’. He also led the team to represent New Zealand in the Strange Vehicle Games in China in 2004 and is Vice Chairman of the International Strange Vehicle Games Committee, based in China.

These days Trevor works as a design engineer as a full time job, but is also in the Royal New Zealand Navy Reserve as a Chief Petty Officer Seaman Combat Specialist, where he teaches combat, weapons skills and ceremonial to reserve personnel.

Trevor is a father to Emily and Kent and a Granddad to Nixon.

His mottos to success are:

1. As a tree is trained so it shall grow.

2. Discipline turns talent into ability.
