Alan Duff was born in Rotorua and is a New Zealand author and newspaper columnist. His novels include 'Once Were Warriors' and 'What Becomes of the Broken Hearted' both of which have become successful New Zealand films.

More recently Alan has published his autobiography entitled 'Out of the Mist and Steam' and has just released his latest novel 'Dreamboat Dad'. Alan has been named NBR 'New Zealander of the Year' for his work with the Duffy Books in Homes programme. In 2000 Alan wrote a book on 'Maori Heroes & Heroines', which was given out to 65,000 children throughout the country who were a part of the Duffy Books in Homes programme.

Alan is passionate about books and about Duffy Books in Homes of course! He is the founder of the programme which was set up in 1994/1995.
