Ben Carson grew up in extreme poverty but as a result of his mother's focus on reading he went on to become the Director of Paediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the USA.  He is the first person to successfully separate conjoined twins joined at the back of the head.

In 2009 a movie, called Gifted Hands - The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding Jr., was made of his life.

Ben will be interviewed by leading broadcaster Paul Holmes at a charity auction and dinner which will raise funds for children in Duffy Books in Homes schools and a major rebuild of Starship's Level 6 Neuroservices and Medical Specialty Wards.  John Hawkesby will MC what promises to be a very special event.
